Any Shadows nut who's looked at the cover of their 1961 self-titled album for way too long must have thought for at least a second... What is that piece of paper in Jet's hand that he and Hank are looking at?
Some people think it's a letter, or a photo, even sheet music - but it's actually their self titled EP. Look closely... the back of the record cover matches the text on the paper!

And I think this confirms that these photos were taken around the time of release of the EP in January 1961...
I have a French postcard with another photo from the same session. Though the original is iconic, I like this photo slightly more - they're smiling!
Here you
can see how the red paint on 34346 had worn off, probably why Hank is
trying to hide it in the photo used on the album. This would have only been a couple months before the Shadows received their matching Fender guitars with the rosewood fretboards.
